Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th, 1964) is an American politician and lawyer who is the 49th and current vice president of the United States. Harris is the first female vice-president and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as also the first African American and second Asian American vice president. She is a senator and former US senator who represents California. Harris was born and was raised in Oakland, California. Her professional career started in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later promoted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected the district attorney of San Francisco. She was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senate from California from 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Martinez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the second African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. She was a senator , and advocated for healthcare reform as well as federal cannabis de-scheduling an opportunity to become a citizen for immigrants without a legal status and the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. Her sharp questioning of Trump officials during Senate hearings has earned the attention of the nation, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
